Time 2 Count |
A Volunteer's Story: Jill Bill
Having worked in the bank for 18 years it was only two years ago that I first became involved in T2C but I am certainly very glad I did.
This year we are working with P7 girls who are not sitting a transfer test. On the basis that learning should be fun, the school has a great selection of games to play provided by Northern Bank through the Time 2 Count Programme.
Recently we introduced a computer based game which is challenging, and not just for the girls! Apart from the annual party arranged by Northern Bank we have had the opportunity to mix with the girls outside of T2C at their Christmas carol service. The event was really enjoyable with each year performing a different piece. The girls and the school seemed thrilled that we had given our time to come along to this important event in the school calendar.
![]() | Outside of work I enjoy walking, socialising (!), holidaying and have certainly never done anything like T2C before. So, if you are busy convincing yourself that you wouldn't be able to help, please think again. I have no experience of dealing with children and I am sure my old teachers would be very amused to think that I am now helping others to learn! Enthusiasm is all you need to bring with you and in return you will receive a huge amount of satisfaction and a great sense of achievement. I think the Time 2 Count programme is fantastic and would encourage everyone to think about volunteering as people like us are essential to its survival. |

A Volunteer's Story: Laura Blaney
Volunteering on Time to Count has given me the opportunity to develop new skills as well as build on skills I didn't even realise I had until I re-entered the classroom . I've worked in the bank for 30 years and this is the first time I've taken part in the Bank's community programme. I was looking forward to meeting the children and I knew I would enjoy my time back at the school my own children had attended.. Even in a few months it has been really rewarding to observe their development. Their confidence is growing every week as they use maths terms with us and begin to lose their inhibitions through the maths games. All of us are guilty of forgetting about the outside world in our hectic schedules and this scheme gives us the opportunity to get involved in something worthwhile. I would definitely encourage others to get involved.
