WORLD BOOK DAY
Thursday 5 March 2009
The aim of World Book Day is to encourage children to explore the pleasure of books. Schools have been encouraged to register on the special website so that each child will receive a World Book Day £1 book token, which can be exchanged at any participating bookshop or book club. Perhaps you could check with the teachers in your school how they are celebrating World Book Day and could confirm that the school has registered on the website www.worldbookday.com.
Lots of ideas are available on this website, and you simply click on the primary resources page where activities can be downloaded.
World Book Day is associated with the National Year of Reading, and you can find out more about this on www.yearofreading.org.uk.
To coincide with World Book Day, the Quick Reads 2008 campaign will also publish ten new titles, and you can get details of these on www.quickreads.org.uk.
Another useful website is www.literacytrust.org.uk, which has excellent resources for schools—these resources can be adapted for Time to Read.
