Time to Compute

Good Practice

In Time to Compute mentors are not expected to take the place of a teacher but are there to give one to one encouragement to children, helping them to relax, interact and talk with an adult, gain confidence and develop their IT and ICT skills.

Mentors work with two key stage 2 children, (P5, P6 or P7), spending one hour a week in a room outside of the classroom helping them with their understanding of IT. The sessions are usually scheduled for early in the morning or before lunchtime.

Working with children is very rewarding. Existing mentors report outstanding results - for themselves as well as the children. They talk of the pride they feel in what they are doing and the delight they feel in making a difference. Time to Compute mentors speak of how it has developed their listening and coaching skills, but most of all they say it is fun, something to look forward to in the busy working week.  more . . .
