Time to Compute

Time to Compute was developed as part of the DETI's Information Age Initiative and BITC's comm.unity programme, which seeks to help bridge the digital divide and build lasting partnerships between businesses and local schools. The value of Time to Compute is in its simplicity. Business volunteers spend and hour each week with children in Primary Schools working on ICT related activities in a fun and exciting way.

ICT is fundamental to a child's learning and development. If children find it difficult to use ICT, they will find it increasingly hard to learn effectively; which can all too often result in underachievement later on in school and the world of employment.

Time to Compute demonstrates that there is tremendous value in having positive adult role models who develop relationships of trust which build the confidence and communication skills of the children involved, whilst simultaneously improving their ICT skills.
